Things You Must Know
- What is SALSA Dance ?
- Current Salsa Scene in Nepal
- Why DANCE Salsa ?
- Salsa Parties in Kathmandu,Nepal
Salsa is a couple/partner dance which is based on the rule of lead-follow. The leader (on most occasions the male partner) takes the responsibility to think which steps to do and tries to convey it to the follower (on most occasions the female partner) through subtle movements and signals.
Except in performances and shows, it is spontaneous and each couple may do different moves on the same beat or music.
Salsa originated basically from Latin American countries like Cuba, Puerto Rico, Colombia etc. However, the places like New York and Los Angeles have also contributed a lot in bringing salsa to the current state. It is normally danced on Latin songs which are in Spanish.
Salsa was introduced in Nepal one and a half decade ago and it has now been developed as a popular hobby and a profession. Recently, people have shown great interest towards this dance form by showing up in salsa classes, social parties, workshops and festivals organized by different dance schools. The salsa circle has enabled people to break free, to make friends, interact, socialize and come together. We dance out loud and influence others to start too.College students and other professionals travelling abroad also find it handy as it helps them to mingle with various social circles and make friends. We repeatedly hear from our students that because of their salsa circle they are able to find jobs and make professional contacts in Nepal and abroad. Besides, passionate dancers have taken this activity professionally and the culture of travelling within the country and abroad for salsa parties, performances and training have also started taking shape.
Salsa is an elegant dance form, with the motto of Lead and Follow. If you are still not sure, come to one of the weekly salsa parties in Kathmandu or simply drop by to our classes/practice sessions at the studio to enter into the SALSA WORLD!!
Dance not only energies your Mind and Body but also, takes you far away from your mundane life. Its an art of composure, elegance and compassion.
We always admire others dancing but don’t dare to step on the floor ourselves on most occasions because we are too shy or concerned about what others would say. Nobody wants to do something they are not good at. SALSA is a simple yet, elegant and graceful dance form. It is often related to walking in a sense that anyone who can walk, can do Salsa. Learning how to Salsa gives you the confidence to step on the dance floor and overcome the fear of dancing. It builds self-confidence, discipline and concentration. It is a great hobby that also makes people social and outgoing. It gives you the freedom to move, to dream with your feet and teaches you to perform as a team and to inspire others.
Salsa parties or socials are gatherings where everyone dances with each other exchanging the love and passion for the dance form. People from different backgrounds, age group, current/former students of different dance schools all come together to dance. Wheather you are new to the SALSA world or a salsa trained dancer from Nepal or abroad, we highly recommend you to check it out.
Currently, we have salsa parties twice or thrice every week. You can expect salsa/bachata/meringue songs in the all the parties. Kizomba is still catching up so you can expect less Kizomba.
